Reciting 1000 times Surah Kauthar in the state of menses (Haidh)

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. Can a woman in Haidh recite Quran as a form of Eesale Sawaab for the deceased? Like reciting 1000 times Surah Kauthar for Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam?

A. The general rule is that a woman in the state of menstruation is not permitted to read any verse of the Qur’an. However, it is permissible for her to read verses of the Qur’an as a form of Dua, such as Surah Fatihah, Ayat al-Kursi, etc.

Accordingly, it will be permissible for a woman in the state of menstruation to read Surah Kauthar 1000 times or any other verse of the Quran as Eesale Sawaab as it is a form of Dua, for Nabi Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam or for any other person.

In this case, the intention must be of Dua and not to recite the Qur’an. It will not be permissible for a woman in menstruation to recite the Quran in normal circumstances. (Fatawa Rahimiyya 8/91)
