Is this fast valid or not?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Asalaamu ‘Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu.

My husband has a habit of eating after the time to keep fast. He will finish eating around 4:30 -4:40 when the time to stop is 4:21am. Is his fast still valid?

Wa Alaikum Assalaam,

Eating at 4:30 – 4:40 am will cause a person’s fast to be null and void. In other words, he will have no fast for these days when he ate at such timings, and will have to do Qadha to make up for those days.

The timing of 4:21am which is mentioned as the time to stop eating sehri, is a precautionary time which reflects 5 minutes earlier than the actual break of dawn. This means that the actual break of dawn for these days (Sat. 27th May 2017 until Thurs. 15th June) is 4:26am. This is the official time to stop eating. If anyone eats beyond this time, he will have no fast for that day and will have to make Qadha for the fast.

And Allah Knows Best.
