How should a person pray sitting when there are no chairs available?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Assalamu Alaikum

If there is no chair available in the Masjid and a person is unable to stand for salaah or sit in attihiyat position due to joint problems, Can he sit with his buttocks flat on the ground and pray with gestures?   If yes then should the legs be folded in front or extended in direction of Qiblah?

Wa Alaikum Assalaam,

الجواب و بالله التوفيق

In the situation mentioned, a person can sit on his buttocks flat on the ground and pray with gestures. In this state, the legs should be folded. If this is not possible (due to difficulties), he can extend the legs in the direction of the Qiblah.

And Allah Knows Best.
