Question:

Assalamualaikum

I wanted to ask: Does one have to provide for his wife when he did not have any sexual relations with her after marriage, Rukhsati has not happened and she stays with her parents?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Answer:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakaatuh,

As long as the marriage has been conducted in the correct manner, the husband has to provide for his wife’s needs, and it is not a condition that they have to be living together.[1] This is if she is ready to have sexual relations. If she is not ready then it depends upon the reason. If the reason is that she has yet to receive her mahr (for example) then the husband still has to provide.[2]

Only Allah knows best
