Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

After finding out a lipstick was haraam as it contained carmine (insect derived dye) my mom gave it to a non-Muslim friend. Was this correct to do? I believe she was Pakistani Christian and abstains from alcohol and pig etc.

Answer:

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Allah Ta’ala says in the Quran:  Only He has forbidden to you the dead animals, and the blood, and flesh, of swine, and what has been dedicated [with it] to other than Allah. (1)

Whenever Allah has forbidden something, there is a benefit behind it for all of us  Muslims and non-Muslims as well. Therefore, that which is Haram to use by oneself is also haram to give it to someone else.(2)

Only Allah knows best
