Going out with one’s fiance before nikaah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Can I meet my fiance in a restuarent 3 days before our marriage, with our parents permission?

Bismillaah

A: All premarital contact and relationships are impermissible in shariah. Hence, it is not permissible for the boy and girl to meet or speak casually with each other regardless of whether this is done with the permission of the parents or not. Through the parents condoning this sin and supporting them in it, they will also be sinful.

It is illogical for the boy and girl to delay the nikaah and go out with each other in this manner. When they have confirmed the proposal, they should not delay in performing the nikaah. Nikaah is a need like other human needs. Just as when one is in need of food, one fulfills the need immediately and does not delay, similarly the need of nikaah should not be delayed. Through delaying in performing the nikaah, the boy and girl get into contact and fall into sin, thereby causing the blessings of the nikaah to be lost.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
