Non-Arabic Intentions for Salaah: Valid or Not?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Is the salaah valid if a person makes the intention before salaah in non-arabic, and instead of using the word “Fajr”, he says “morning prayer” or instead of using the word “Maghrib”, he says “evening prayer”?

Bismillaah

A: If one made a verbal intention before commencing the salaah that he is performing morning prayer or evening prayer and through morning and evening prayer one had intended fajr salaah and maghrib salaah respectively, then the salaah will be valid.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
