Warning against speaking lies in order to make people laugh

Please provide the reference for the Hadith which states “Woe unto the one who speaks lies just to make people laugh”

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi and others have recorded the following Hadith:

Sayyiduna Mu’awiyah ibn Haydah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Woe to the one who speaks lies to make the people laugh. Woe to him! Woe to him!”

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 2315, Sunan Abi Dawud, Hadith: 4951. Declared sound by Imam Tirmidhi)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
