Allah Ta’ala does not punish the heart which contains the Quran

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

is the following Hadith authentic?

Abu Umamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports this Hadith:

“Almighty Allah does not punish the heart which contains the Quran”

Answer

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah and Imam Darimi (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration as the statement of Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) and not as a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

(Musannaf ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 30702 and 35877, Sunan Darimi, Hadith: 3362)

Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has declared one particular chain of narrators of this Hadith as authentic.

(Fathul Bari, under Hadith: 5030)

This narration may be quoted as the statement of Abu Umamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu), although it will be understood that Abu Umamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) heard this from Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) as the nature of this Hadith is not such that he could have made up applying his own logic.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
