What is the reference of this Hadith?
من جاءك بالحق فاقبل منه، وإن كان بعيدا قصيا/بغيضا، ومن جاءك بالباطل فاردده، وإن كان قريبا حبيبا
Answer
I have not come across this as a Hadith of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). This narration is recorded as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) in Musnad Ibnul Ja’d and Hilyatul Awliya.
(Musnad Ibnul Ja’d: 2234, Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 1 pg. 134. Also see: Sharhus Sunnah, vol. 1 pg. 234)
The narration may be quoted as the statement of Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu).
Translation
Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said:
“Whoever brings you/informs you of the truth, accept it from him even though he may be distant and far/an enemy and whoever brings falsehood reject it, even though he is a close relative/confidant or someone beloved to you.”
See a similar advice of Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) here.
And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
