Can a Man Remarry His Second Wife After Divorcing Her and His First Wife?

Q: Please advise on the following, a person was married and the took a second wife, gave the second wife 3 x talaaqs, he now regrets it , in the interim he also divorced his first wife. Is he able to get married to the second wife as he is a widow now.

A: If he issued three talaaqs, he cannot remarry her unless halaala takes place. For the details of halaala refer to http://muftionline.co.za/node/15993
