It has been mentioned previously on the Hanafi Fiqh List that the wife must obey the husband even in reasonable permitted household matters like cooking. But Shaykh Muhammad ibn Adam mentioned that there is another opinion on the issue. Can you explain?

I have sent my zakat for the year to my father in-law to distribute within Pakistan on my behalf, but I have a concern as to how far my responsibilities lie on following up where this money goes. My father in-law distributes this money to people he knows as genuinely poor and also to Islamic madrasas. I don’t want to question him in great detail as he may think I am questioning my trust in him. However, I believe he did not give all the money away. He is in great debt which my husband and I will take it on ourselves to pay off, but I do not wish my zakat money to go to him, as I believe my husband and I should pay this and will pay it insha Allah. I will insha Allah take a stand and not give him responsibility for my zakat next year as I take the zakat very seriously because it is due to Allah’s Grace that we have this wealth.

I would sincerely like to know if I can because I need to make arrangements for me to go to umrah with him and his wife.

I had a question related to inheritance. My step-father passed away a month ago leaving behind my mother, his real daughter, his brother who is deceased and was from the same mother but different father, and another brother, again who is deceased from same mother but different father. I and my brother are his step children; my mother married my father and that is the daughter they have. As far as we are aware there are no other family connected with my father. Please advise on how his inheritance will be calculated.
