Can you please let me know the status of Mariyah Qibtiya in relation to Nabi (saw)?
Was she a wife and was she married to Nabi (SAW)?
If not married, then how is this substantiated in the Shariah.?
Answer:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Answer:
Mariyah al- Qibitiyah Bint Sham’oon was the slave girl of Rasullullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam). Rasullullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Alayhi Wa Sallam) had made Mariyah al- Qibtiyyah his Sariyyah (slave girl).
Rasullullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) did not marry Mariyah al- Qibtiyyah.[1]
It is not permissible for one to marry one’s slave girl without relinquishing the bondage of slavery from one’s slave girl according to the maxims and cardinal principles of Shariah.[2]
