Is it forbidden to listen to patriotic songs?

All perfect praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds; may His blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.
Patriotism and keenness on preserving Muslim country is an integral part of one`s faith since Allah commanded us to protect the sanctities of Muslims, their blood, wealth and honor. He the Almighty has also commanded doing good to other creatures, be they humans, animals or trees for this is embodied in the general meaning of the verse: " And spend of your substance in the cause of God, and make not your own hands contribute to (your) destruction; but do good; for God loveth those who do good.": {Al-Baqarah, 195}. This good to country can be translated through patriotic songs and poems provided that they aren`t accompanied with forbidden music. It can also be achieved through dedicated work that aims to advance the Muslim nation. And Allah the Almighty knows best.
