It is Permissible to Remove a Mole for Beautification Purposes

Answered as per Shafi'i Fiqh by Darul Iftaa Jordan
I have a strikingly huge mole on my neck  and it annoys my husband. What is the ruling on undergoing cosmetic surgery to remove it? It is worth pointing that I wear Hijab.

Answer:

All perfect praise be to Allah the Lord of the Worlds. May His peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Mohammad and upon all his family and companions.

Scholars stated regarding bumpy gland:

1-If removing it threatens life, then it shouldn`t be removed.

2-If keeping it threatens life, then it should be removed to ward of this danger.

3-If there is no harm in removing or keeping it but the person, who has it, wants to remove this deformity or for more beautification, then this is permissible as well.

Al-Shirbini (May Allah be pleased with him) says: "If removing it threatens life, then it shouldn`t be removed since Allah the Almighty says: "And spend of your substance in the cause of Allah, and make not your own hands contribute to (your) destruction; but do good; for Allah loveth those who do good." {Al-Baqara, 195}. It shouldn`t be removed if it doesn`t threaten life. However, it is permissible to remove it to eliminate a deformity and for beautification purposes." {Moghni Al-Mohtaaj, V.4:200}. And Allah the Almighty knows best.
