Q. How many times a day did the Prophet Sallallallahu Alayhi Wasallam eat?
A. It was the common practice of Rasulullalalah Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam to partake of meals twice a day if meals were available. This would be the Morning (Ghada’) and the evening (Ashaa’) meals. Most of the time, food was not readily available for a meal in which case, he (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) would observe fast.
Sayyidatuna Aaisha Radhiyallahu Anha reports: “The family of Muhammad Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam did not eat to their fill the bread of wheat for the morning and evening meals beyond three days consecutively till he passed away.” (Musnad Abu Ya’la)
Sayyidatuna Aaisha Radhiyallahu Anha reports: “There were many occasions where Rasulullallah Sallallahy Alayhi Wasallam would call for his morning meal but there would be nothing available. So, he would take it upon himself to fast that day.” (Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah)
