The status of temporary tattooing in Islam

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by TheMufti.com

Q. It is a trend amongst teenagers at school to draw fake/temporary tattoos on the hands and arms of each other in the form of hearts, names etc. Is this form of tattooing permissible in Islam?

A. All forms of tattooing are prohibited in Islam, irrespective if it is of animate or inanimate objects, designs, writings etc.

Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “Allah Ta’ala curses those who make tattoos and those on whose bodies’ tattoos are made.” (Bukhari)

The same applies to drawing fake/temporary tattoos on the body.
