Qaseedah “Ya Sayyedi”

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Assalamu `Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.

Mufti Saheb, is is true that the Qaseedah “Ya Sayyedi Irham Lanaa” was written by Imam Zayn-ul-Abideen (Rahmatullah `Alayhi) while he was in the captivity of Yazeed?

And if it was not written by him, will it still be permissible to read it and listen to the Nasheed (as recited by Owais Qadri)? Is there any Shirk in this Qaseedah?

Jazakallah Khayr.

Walaikumussalam w w

I’m not sure about it’s nisbat towards imam Zainul Abideen, I can’t recall any referance for it. I remember reading it in a book called ‘Armughaane Na’at’ but without it being related to imam Zainul Abideen.

Many qaseedas were written later and related to the people of the past. Some are related to abu talib, to Abdul muttalib, even to Hazrat amena the mother of rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam.

Imam zainul Abideen having written this in captivity of yazeed, is highly unlikely. Because the family stayed with yazeed in shaam for only a few days, and yazeed kept them respectfully, because he knew the amount of hostility he had created within the Muslim hearts by murdering sayyiduna Hussain radiallahu anhu. It is said that he regretted it and demoted ubaldullah ibn ziyad for his actions. And that he sent the family to madinah shareef with respect.

So, this nisbat seems unlikely. Plus, the ahlul bayt were the most tolerant, patient, forbearing individuals of that time. In spite of such a huge calamity befalling their family, they never wailed nor lamented. These types of stories are pure fabrication of the Shias, and sadly, the Sunnis have fallen for them. May Allah have merce on us.

Owais Qadri is not a full Alim. He has a beautiful voice and I like many of his nasheeds, however, he is not careful about what he reads. Many of his nasheeds are objectionable, some even weaken the imaan, by making the listener think that no matter how much I sin, Mustafa sallallahu alyhi wasallam will save me in maydaane hashr. Whereas, he sallallahu alayhi wasallam addressed his close family and said ” Anqizoo anfusakum minannar! La ughni ankum minallahi shay’an” Save yourself from the fire! I will be of no avail to you in front of Allah” ( Saheeh Muslim)

This nasheed consists of some beautiful verses about the beauty of Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam, and then suddenly the couplet comes ‘Ya Rahmatal lilaalameen adrik lizaynil Abideen mahboosi aydizzalimeen fil mawkibi wal muzdaham’ This does not corroborate with the rest of the couplets. There is a great possibility that the rest of the qaseeda was by the great imam and this couplet is an addition inserted someone later on. Wallahu a’alam
