Question
Can you give dua for good/sunny weather and for it not to rain.
Answer
yes one can make dua for good weather like how we can make dua for anything else which is good from Allah.
But one should not make dua for ‘it not to rain’ because one should remember that rain is a blessing/ bounty of Allah and a mercy for his creation and a means of sustenance for his creation.
Also there are many people who look forward to the rain such as farmers so Allah Ta’ala knows best where and when to send rain.
However we learn from the Hadith of our beloved prophet صلي الله عليه وسلم that the time of severe rain, he made a very unique and wonderful dua, Bukhari pg. 138
اللهم حوالينا ؤ لا علينا اللهم علي الآكام و الظراب و بطون الأودية و منابت الشجر
Translation: ‘O Allah (let it rain) around us and not on us, O Allah (let it rain) on the hilltops, on the highlands (plateaus), in the valleys and over the places where trees grow.’
