Short tafseer of the shortest Surah of the Quran

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

The shortest Surah of the Quran is Wal-Asr (103)

Allah takes an oath of time and then says people are losing out except who do 4 things;

Who have proper faith,
Who are busy in doing good deeds
Who propagate Haq
Who propagate patience

Q: Why oath of time?

A: To inform us that time is our most valuable asset, Yet we devalue it & lose out

However, if we do 4 things we not only avoid the loss, we gain;

First is to have firm belief in
everything Allah and His Rasul tell us

Second is to practice constantly & continuously

Third is to spread Haq

Spreading Haq means what we know is right, we should tell others;

By counselling, preaching, explaining; to friends & foes alike

& Finally

We might fall into hot waters whilst establishing Haq

If someone gets angry at us or others, we have to be patient & spread sabr.

Imam Shafi’ee rahmatullahi alayhi said:

“If Allah had revealed nothing in the Quran except this Surah, It would have been enough to guide mankind”

Many among the salaf would recite this Surah to one another upon separation after a meeting.
