Can we cut our hair with an outline?

Is it permissible to cut your hair with an outline? My aunt says it is not. (U.K.)

To make a hairline in such a way that some of the hair is smaller on one side and longer on the other is not allowed. The length of the hair should be equal; either all small, all along, etc.
