Can we do Sadaqah soon after a persons death?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Is it permissible in Shariah to do Sadaqah on behalf of a dead person, immediately after the death? Is it permissible to give Sadaqah through a goat or any animal, will it be rewarded for the deceased person?

It is permissible to both make the intention of forgetting the reward immediately after someone’s death or sometime after they had passed away. It is possible to sacrifice an animal and then give the meat for Sadaqah, or you can give cash or something directly to somebody. Also, eesaal (doing an action and giving the reward for that action to someone else) can also be given for those who are alive; it is not limited to those who have passed away.
