Information about sadaqah

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Askimam.org

With reference to my question regarding giving zakat to mother (Fatwa No. 32051)

http://askimam.org/public/question_detail/32051

Can you please provide details about giving sadaqah to parents. What is sadaqah, is it compulsory for one to give and how much one can give to parents?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sadaqah is a voluntary act of charity with which the donor expects a reward from Allah Ta’aalaa.[1] There is no limit to how much sadaqah one must give. In your case, you may give as much as sadaqah within your financial means to your mother as you feel necessary for her to sustain herself.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
