I work as a self employed taxi man. What is the maslah regarding taking tips from customers. And do I have to pay the full tax requirement according to the law of the land? As this can be up to 40%.
It is permissible to take a tip, the one who gives it does so out of his own will so as long as it is not taken by force it is permissible. The country we live in and its laws must be adhered to, if it requires for its citizens to pay taxes then we should pay them. Scholars have suggested, if you deposit your money in a bank and you receive interest on it then you can use that money to pay off your taxes.
