Can I trim beard in order to get in equal length

I have been growing a beard for about 2 years now and it is not a fistful yet. My relatives and parents are telling me to trim it so that it looks even. Can I trim it just to make it look good. Also one side of the beard grows more than the other, so can I trim it in a way so that it is equal length on both sides of the beard.
Yes, you can trim such that you let it grow at the same time. You can’t trim in a way that it gets smaller.
