If someone started the I’tikaf in the last ten days of the month of Ramadan but some excusable reason left it, so, what is the ruling on that case?

If someone started the I’tikaf in the last ten days of the month of Ramadan but some excusable reason left it, so, what is the ruling on that case?
A vigilant and more prudent approach is that that person should do I’tikaf after the month of Ramadan for ten days and fast in those ten days but this ruling is not mandatory. In other words, whatever day he missed from his Sunnah I’tikaf he could just make that up and that would suffice.
