Income from Insurance Job

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum,

I a full time employee in a software consulting company that contracted me into an Life Insurance company where I am doing my current job as programmer.  My job involves, gathering and summarizing data about insurance policy information, premiums, claims etc. from various IT systems, and do not involve any interest calculations or sending / receiving applications or signing insurance contracts etc as such.

My question is, can I go to Haj/Umrah using this earned money from my current job?  If I perform Haj/Umrah would it become an accepted deed by Allah?

If I cannot use this money, can I borrow from someone do the Haj/Umrah and later pay back?

JazakAllah

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

Though you are not in direct contact with the people in these matters but the information you are providing to the company is based on interest and insurance, therefore, this job is شرعاً (Shara’n) not permissible. If this responsibility is given to you temporarily as a sub part of your main job then this action of yours is impermissible, it would be better if you separate the income from the salary earned performing this duty and give in Sadaqah, and if your job actually is to perform these transactions then it is necessary to quit it as soon as possible, however, continuing this job you search for the other job, when you find the other job then quit this job.
