Repeating an Aayah three times in Salaat

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by ShariahBoard.org

Assalamualaikum,

We have a person who occasionally leads prayer and during the recitation of Surah Fateha and other recitation he repeats some aayah three time.  For example he repeats “Ihdenasheratal Mustaquim” three times in Salaat when that aayah comes. Is there any Karahat in doing so?

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

On account of an excuse, e.g., forgetting there is no harm in repeating the Aayaat in Surah Fatihah and other Surahs, to repeat without excuse is Makrooh, however, if the repetition in Surah Fatihah is so much that in addition to the actual Qiraat of Surah Fatihah the extra recitation becomes more than much of Surah Fatihah, i.e., more than the first three Aayaat, then سجدہ سہو (Sajdah Seh) will be واجب (Wajib), and if it is less than that then سجدہ سہو (Sajdah Seh) will be not be واجب (Wajib), but definitely کراہت (Karahat) will occur. Therefore, in the Fard Salaat neither repetition of Aayaat in Surah Fatihah should be done nor in other Surahs. One should exercise caution and avoid that.
