Is It Permissible To Listen to the Quran While Falling Asleep?

Question

Is it permissible to listen to the Quran while falling asleep?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful and Compassionate

It is of the etiquettes of the Qur’an that when it is playing (or being recited) that one pays attention to it.

Allah Most High says, “When the Quran is recited, listen to it attentively and be silent so that you may be shown mercy.” [Qur’an; 7:204]

Thus the one who wishes to listen to the Qur’an as they lay down does not go against the above verse since they are attentive (until they fall asleep) and they are silent. When they feel they are being overpowered by sleep, it is best for them to turn off the recitation.

The reason is that the one sleeping may do some actions (unknowingly) that go against the etiquettes of the Qur’an.

Hope this helps

Allah knows best
