Is It Halal To Make Dua For Superpowers?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Question: Is it halal to ask Allah for superpowers?

Answer:

Dear questioner,

May Allah bless you and increase you in good.

You are a Muslim, and alhamdulillah that makes you plenty special. In terms of supernatural powers and wishing for them, that is not really how the world we live in functions.

Miracles/ Powers

We do believe in miracles of the Prophets and the close pious friends of Allah. However, they were granted to them to guide people to the truth of Islam. They were not given for worldly reasons or lowly aspirations.

Duas

The best prayers to read are those that will matter most for us in This World and the Next.
A great example of this that you can read is the following dua;

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
“O Lord! Grant us good in this life, and good in the next, and save us from the torment of the Fire (Rabbana atina fi’dunya hasana wa fi’l-akhirati hasana wa qina `adhab al-nar)” [Qur’an, 2:201]

The exegetes mention it includes an abundant good which includes among them the following:

  • A Good spouse
  • Pious children
  • Success in trade
  • Well-being
  • Having beneficial knowledge

[Tafsir ibn Kathir]

So in summary, we should follow the Prophet Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) in how he made dua and what things he aspired for and wanted for us as well.

May Allah bless you and help you to be very special, in a manner and way that will help your next world.
