Question: Assalamu alaykum

I applied for a job at a truck company who develops and sells trucks used for transport such as buses or trucks.

A small part of the company develops and sells trucks for the military.

I am planing to say that I don’t want to work with military stuff.

Is this permissible for me?

Answer: Wa alaikum as-salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

Please see the article below, which explains the principle underlying the permissibility or impermissibility of employment in a particular firm or company.

Working at a Firm Involved in Interest-Based Transactionsby Mufti Muhammad ibn Adam

Applying the stated principle to your situation, developing and selling trucks for civilian transportation does not appear to entail anything unlawful. Hence, it would be halal work. In addition, the income generated from such sales would also be halal. As you have correctly identified, it would preferable for you to avoid working in the military division, as that would raise issues related to how the military equipment is used.
