Is Wearing a Silver Bracelet Permissible for Men?

Question: Assalam alaykum

Is wearing a silver bracelet permissible for men?

Answer: Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah,

It is not permissible for men to wear jewellery made from silver or otherwise. However, the silver ring is excluded from this general ruling as it is established in the sunna.

The reason for this is that making oneself up with jewellery and the like is deemed to be unmanly, and the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) cursed those who resemble or imitate women. [Bukhari] A silver bracelet may also be deemed problematic given its resemblance to the adornment of those outside of the faith.

Consequently, dress modestly well, in accordance with the sunna, and ask Allah Most High to make your inward consonant with your outward. Then, let that and your good character be your adornment.
