Do We Always Have to Check Our Under Garments Upon Waking Up?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Question: Assalamu alaykum

Do we always have to check our under garments upon waking up to see whether sperm has been emitted even when we have a feeling?

Answer:  Walaikum assalam,

I hope you’re doing well, insha’Allah.

There is no such expectation to check one’s private parts upon waking.

Rather, looking at one’s private parts without need is contrary to the sunna of the Messenger of Allah (peace & blessings be upon him)—and acting on misgivings (waswasa), which we have been commanded to seek refuge from.

When you have reasonable fear (with a basis—such as feeling some sticky liquid around one’s private areas), only then should one check without excessiveness.
A Reader on Baseless Misgivings (waswasa).
