Can Men Wear Silk Ties?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Seekersguidance.org

Answered by Ustadh Tabraze Azam

Question: As Salaam alaikum,

Is wearing a silk tie permissible for men? Most of the ties available in the market are either completly made of silk or mixed with it…

Answer: Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

I pray that you are in the best of health and faith, insha’Allah.

No, it is not permitted for men to wear clothing that is made entirely from silk.

The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “Wearing silk and gold has been forbidden for the men of my community but is lawful for its women.” [Tirmidhi]

However, if the silk content is less than 50%, the scholars permit wearing such items. [Nahlawi, al-Durar al-Mubaha fi al-Hazr wa al-Ibaha]
