RE: praying in planes

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

How come one know the correct time to pray when one is in a plane? For example if I’m going from someone like Syria to America, how would I know what time to pray when the plane is going through different time zones really quickly?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

Wassalam,

1. It is obligatory to pray on the plane.

2. When reasonably possible to pray standing (or sitting on the ground, with full prostration), facing the qibla, it is obligatory to do so.

3. When not reasonably possible to do so, one must still pray, and may do so sitting at one’s chair.

4. One should use one’s reasoned judgment regarding the prayer times where one is (up in the air), to the best of one’s ability.

5. For details, see: (http://www.SunniPath.com), where you will also find Shaykh Abu Usama’s excellent treatise on the Fiqh of Travel.

And Allah alone gives success.
