Do women need to pray when traveling?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaykum

The ritual prayer five times a day is obligatory for all sane adults whether male or female. Travel is no exception from this rule. Certain dispensations have been given by the Lawgiver to make prayer whilst traveling easier, such as shortening the prayer, leaving sunna prayers, performing tayammum in the absence of water and joining prayers according to the scholars that permit it. These dispensations have been placed precisely to encourage us and enable us to pray whilst traveling.

Praying whilst traveling can indeed be challenging but with resolve and intelligence it can be managed and is a big source of baraka in one’s journey.

Faraz adds:

As for feeling ‘shy’, one should remember the words of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace), “Allah is more deserving of one’s shyness than people are.” [Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi; Bukhari mentioned it ta`liqan]
