Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani
Is one’s salah valid if there are pictures of people or animals present in the same room? And what if there are toys such as dolls or items with cartoon type pictures of animals on in the same room? Do these need to be covered, and in what way do they affect the validity of one’s salah? If they invalidate salah, does one need to make up all the passed salah’s prayed under these conditions, even if they were unaware of the ruling?
Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
It is prohibitively disliked (makruh tahriman) to pray in a room within sight of a painting of humans or animals, and likewise of a hanging picture.
As for toys or books or newspapers with pictures, it is proper that they not be immediately in front of one, but it is not prohibitively disliked to pray in the same room as these.
And Allah alone gives success.
