Why are answers not always given with explanations and proof?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

I have had all of my questions answered by Sunni Path, but I never received an explanation that discusses any of the proofs for the answers given. However, many of the questions I am e-mailed, and those listed on the website, have proofs and detailed explanations. Is there any particular criteria you use to decide whether you will give a proof and an explanation as opposed to a brief answer to the question? I understand you don’t have time to answer all questions in detail, I just want to know how you decide which questions need detailed answers. I am an aspiring student of Islam and I’d really like to know as well as understand Islamic rulings. With that being said, I sincerely appreciate having all of my questions answered. With or without details given, it is a … benefit.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

It is a case of doing the best we can with limited resources. I typically answer 50 to 80 questions per day (on some days over 100, once 135), mostly privately.

While we would like to give at least some explanation (and, ideally, something of the proofs) behind each answer, this is not always possible given time constraints. The scholars currently helping answer questions can only answer a limited number of questions each week.

We do, however, take every reasonable care that answers are in reliable according to the Hanafi school, as explained in its major works and by its major living scholars. Questions that are of a general nature or benefit, and which have not been addressed before are given precedence in terms of explanation and proofs.

If you know of scholars who:

a) are reliable in Hanafi fiqh,

b) know English,

c) are willing and able to answer questions properly, within a week via email (fax/phone is unviable), and

d) are not into polemics or sectarian disputation and are willing to work with scholars and students of different Sunni backgrounds,

please forward me their information, and I will endeavor to contact them in order to join the team of those answering questions on Sunni Path [current team: http://www.sunnipath.com/aboutTeachers.aspx?sectionid=5].

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani

This answer was indexed from Qibla.com, which used to have a repository of Islamic Q&A answered by various scholars. The website is no longer in existence. It has now been transformed into a learning portal with paid Islamic course offering under the brand of Kiflayn.
