Colour restrictions on women’s clothing

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Abdurrahman ibn Yusuf Mangera

Could you please tell me what colour restrictions there are on  women’s clothing? I have heard recently that women are not allowed to wear orange because of its association with Buddhist monks, but this sounds like an unlearned opinion to me.  According to my knowledge, none of the accepted madhaahib place such a restriction on this colour.

In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu alaykum

In the name of Allah, the Inspirer of Truth.

There is nothing wrong with women wearing orange colored clothing for women as long as it is not in the same style as those of the monks. This means that it should not seem distinctly Buddhist.

And Allah knows best.
