Both Prostrations are Obligatory

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Are both the prostrations in salaat Fardh? I’ve heard two different views 1- both are fardh 2- first is fardh second is wajib the stronger view was of the first one since he mentioned he read it in Bukhari chapter on salaat (!)

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

Both prostrations are fard in the Hanafi school, like other schools. Actually making both the prostrations of each rakat IN that rakat is a wajib. (So if you forgetfully prostrated once only in the first rakat of Fajr, you can do so three times in the second, and it would be wajib to do the forgetfulness prostrations for leaving out a wajib.)

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
