Is it permissible to buy stolen goods?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Is it permissible to buy stolen goods?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate

Walaikum assalam,

1. If you know them to be stolen goods, it would be haram to buy them, because it is not permitted to accept the perpetuation of wrong such as theft and stealing, and because the goods remain the legal property of their original owner.

2. If you have reason to think that they may be stolen, it would be disliked to buy them–the dislikedness being to the extent of the likelihood.

3. If there is no sound reason to think they may be stolen (other than one’s mere misgivings), then it would not be disliked to buy the goods.

And Allah alone gives success.

Faraz Rabbani
