Women Discharge: When Does It Not Break Wudu?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Is there detailed literature available in English on all issues about discharge. I don’t mean menstruation. I already have that hanafi book on menstruation.

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Walaikum assalam,

I am not aware of any such literature in English. If you find it, please tell me!

I really really need to know under what circumstances do you need to renew your wudhu with regards to discharge. i.e. the amount you get the colours of the various discharge.

The discharge that doesn’t break wudu and is tahir is the “chronic vaginal discharge” that comes out normally and regularly, and is  clear and not discoloured. All other discharge, even if slightly discoloured ,breaks wudu and is najis. [Based on ruling on discharge in Ibn Abidin, confirmed by Sh. Hassaan al-Hindi, Sh. Adib Kallas, and other Damascene scholars, and  exposited at length by Imam Ashraf Ali Thanvi in his Imdad al-Fatawa]

When reasonably possible, one should do wudu even from the first, as it is possible. However, if you cannot (such as in work situations), there is no problem.

Wassalam,
Faraz Rabbani
