Prostration of recital while driving

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Qibla.com

Answered by Shaykh Faraz Rabbani

Many times we listen to the Qur’an in the car, when just walking around etc. If one hears an ayah that requires Sajda Tilaawa must one do a Sajda even though one may listen to the ayah many times on the tape or one may be driving?

Answer:
In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

Assalamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullah,

1. The prostration of recital is not required when one hears a recording of the Qur’an, because it is not a ‘living recital’ of the Qur’an. [Shaykh Adib al-Kallas of Damascus; Mufti Mahmoud Ashraf Usmani of Karachi] If one wishes to be precautious, one should simply recite the verse oneself and then prostrate.

2. Repeated recital or live hearing of one verse in one session only requires one prostration.

Faraz Rabbani.
