Is braiding hair permissible in Islam for women with varying hair lengths?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftisays.com
salaams, just wanted to know that if its allowed in islam to braid the hair(for women), people have told me that its not allowed but merely my intention for braiding is not for fashion ect its because my hair naturally is all different lengths so i cant do one simple plat… also some say its copyin of non muslims but then again braiding is not really a muslim or non muslim act its a culture act(if am not wrong)
jazakallah…

Al-jawab billahi at-taufeeq (the answer with Allah’s guidance)

It is permissible for women to have their hair braided (plaited).

Narrated Umm Salamah:

I said: Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who has closely plaited hair on my head; should I undo it for taking a bath, because of sexual intercourse? He (the Prophet ) said: No, it is enough for you to throw three handfuls of water on your head and then pour water over yourself, and you shall be purified. (Muslim)

And Only Allah Ta’ala Knows Best.
