Taking an oath that one will not reply to one’s friend

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: I took an oath by Allah that I will not message and reply to my friend. Now my friend is messaging and calling me. What should I do?

Bismillaah

A: If you do not fear any harm in your Deen through you befriending this person, then you should break your oath and speak to your friend. Remaining upon the oath and severing ties with a mu’min for no valid Shar’ee reason is impermissible. However you should discharge the kaffara for breaking the oath.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
