Acting in a play about Jesus

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: 3-4 months back I did a mime (dance performance) on a song in which the lyrics was about a person who was saved and he was thanking jesus, and I did that role in acting. Does this include in shirk? I was just acting, in reality I am a muslim, please help.

Bismillaah

A: Taking part in such plays or dance performances is a serious offence, more so where the subject matter is revolving around shirk and kufr. You should sincerely repent to Allah Ta’ala for getting involved in such a sin and make a firm resolve that you will not repeat this in the future. As a precautionary measure, since the offence is extremely terrible as it brought you on the brink of kufr, you should recite the Kalimah in abundance.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.

Q: I wanted to ask you regarding the question 748 that, how should make a film for resolving it? Which kalma should I recite to ask for forgiveness from ALLAH, because I can’t understand arabic and I would like you to please send me the translation of it, because the first paragraph had the “zair”, “zabar” and “paish” and the other had no “zair”, “zabar” and “paish”, so please tell me which one is hadith and which one is kalma which I have to recite.

Bismillaah

A: Feel remorseful and sad over what has taken place and make a firm resolve and determination with your heart that you will not repeat this sin in the future.

Recite Istighfaar in abundance.

“I seek fogiveness from Allah Ta’ala (for the sin I have committed) that Allah besides whom their is no other deity, the ever-living and eternal and I turn to Him (in repentance that I will not repeat this sin in the future).

Recite the kalimah Tayyibah in abundance:

Lailaaha Illaahu Muhammadur Rasoolullah  (Sallallhu alaihi wasallam): There is no deity worthy of worship besides Allah Ta’ala and Muhammad (Sallallhu alaihi wasallam) is the messenger of Allah Ta’ala.

Since the sin you committed has taken place in public, likewise your taubah should be carried out in public i.e.you should announce your taubah to those who were present and inform them that what was done was totally impermissible.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
