Saying “Jesus” when something goes wrong

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Some people say “Jesus” if something goes wrong. They just say it and I sometime say Jesus instead of saying “O my god”. Can we say Jesus?

Bismillaah

A: For two reasons you should refrain from this. The first reason is that this has a resemblance with the Christians. The second reason is that the Christians use the name Jesus attributing divinity to him and imploring help from him. A believer should refrain from resembling the Christians in uttering this statement as this could amount to shirk even though this is not his intention.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
