Entering The Haramain In The State of Haidh

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: If a woman has her monthly period during her stay in Makkah or Madinah during Umra, is it completely impermissible for her to enter the Sacred Mosque in Makkah or the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah? It seems most of the scholars are of the opinion that it is impermissible. How do women get around this problem? Thousands of Muslims go to Umra every year and yet I have never heard anyone bring up this problem, surely not all the women who go to umra are off their menses yet you hardly ever hear of a woman staying in her hotel room due to her menses, instead they enter the masaajid as freely as their men companions.

A: It is not permissible for a woman to enter any musjid in the state of haidh. This is unanimously agreed upon by our Ulama.

We are not answerable for the actions of those who do not respect this command of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam).
