Brotherhood in Islam and loving for the sake of Allah Ta’ala

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Muftionline.co.za

Q: Can you please explain the concept of brotherhood in Islam and what is meant by love for the sake of Allah and about human love.

Bismillaah

A: Allah Ta`ala has declared in the Quraan Shareef that believers are brothers to each other. This means that each person should treat his Muslim brother with love, respect and kindness. He should never entertain any ill-feelings for his Muslim brother and always think good of him. Further, if he finds his Muslim brother in a state of difficulty and hardship then he should assist him according to his means.

Loving for the sake of Allah means that this brotherhood should be maintained solely for the pleasure of Allah Ta`ala. It should not be upheld for ulterior motives, to gain some worldly and material favour in return.

And Allah Ta’ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
