Can I wear slippers inside the house?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Assalam Alaikum Abdur Rahim sahib,

My friend mention me a hadith which I never heard about it and couldn’t find it on internet as well.

he quotes the hadiths from Hazrat Aisha R.A that Prophet S.A.W disliked to wear shoes or slippers at home because it’s a sign of pride. Is It true?

I wear slippers at home all the time, I wear slippers since my childhood.I don’t feel comfortable without slippers at home cause my feet is going to be dirty. Nobody told me about this and never saw in other peoples’ house as well except few of them I guess.

Please tell me about this if you know or heard any hadiths regard this.
Jazzak Allah

Answer:

Walaikumussalam, Janaab!

I can’t really recall any such Hadith. If there was one, it would be regarding the shoes and slippers we wear outside the house. Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam was an extremely humble person so he would take slippers off, plus he has said that taking the shoes off, relieves the feet.

The ones we wear in the house are exclusively made for intenal use. So they are like socks. We live in a very cold country and they are made to give us relief.

So dont worry too much. Wear them Insha Allah, nothing will be wrong.
